“We Doing This?” Gilbert Burns stays resilient in his bid to make Jorge Masvidal fight with his latest callout
Burns has proposed a November date to face Masvidal
The last three fights on Gilbert Burns’ and Jorge Masvidal’s records could not be any more different. Burns is 1-2 in his last 3 against Kamru Usman, Wonderboy Thompson, and Khamzat Chimaev respectively. In all three outings, the Brazillian came out with more respect to his name than when he entered.
Masvidal on the other is 0-3 in his last 3 fights. Two against Kamaru Usman and one against Colby Covington. In all three fights, we barely got a glimpse of the 2019 Masivdal that everyone had grown to love due to his brutal KOs and no-nonsense attitude. Fast forward two years, and it was Masvidal who fell victim to a KO at the hands of Kamaru Usman in their rematch.
Simply comparing their last fights tells us a lot about where these fighters are in their career despite being around the same age. Burns went toe to toe against Chimaev, and walked away with the loss but with his stock higher than ever due to his showing against a seemingly unstoppable force. Masvidal on the other hand was dominated by his former teammate Covington, managing to mount no significant offense of his own. To turn things sour further, Masvidal would go on to assault Covington in public shortly after their PPV main event.
Gilbert Burns propose November Date for Jorge Masvidal clash
Now “Gamebred ” stands at risk of going to prison while also having his career suffer a steep decline. It was at this point that Gilbert almost offered an Olive Branch for Jorge to hold on to as he called him out for a fight in early April. Gamebred even responded to the callout, respectfully agreeing to throw it down in the cage.
To make the veteran feel even more comfortable Burns promised to sign a no takedown clause, assuring the Miami native, from a street fighting background that he wouldn’t have to deal with the BJJ maestro on the ground. However, after the initial pomp and excitement, there seems to have been a radio silence from Masvidal’s side. Maybe the legal battles he was facing might have had something to do with it, so Burns opted to remind him of their agreement.
On Twitter, The Brazillian posted a picture of the two in their traditional fight gear with the caption, “Hey @GamebredFighter we doing this in November or what?” accompanied by the standard Supernecessary hashtag. While no response has been issued by Masvidal yet, we can hope he won’t turn down a fight he agreed to.
