“Can’t compare him to Jones”- Glover Teixeira dismisses claims of Jiri Prochazka being as good as Jon Jones

Glover Teixeira on Jiri Prochazka & Jon Jones

Glover Teixeira compares Jiri’s and Jones’ skills! The 42-year-old champion returns to the octagon for the first time since becoming fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a UFC champion. At UFC 267, Teixeira took on the powerful, Jan Blachowicz and dethroned him of the belt to be crowned at the ‘young’ age of 42.

Glover is now looking to make his first title defense of his UFC career. Despite being in the promotion for a decade, this is the first time Teixeira has managed to get his hands on the undisputed gold.

Prior to his title fight at UFC 267, Teixeira last fought for the belt in 2014 against Jon Jones. 7 years of hard work finally paid off for the veteran and he managed to get hold of the belt. Teixeira is currently on a 6-fight winning streak and will make his title defense against one of the most dangerous fighters, Jiri Prochazka.

Jiri is currently on a 12-fight win streak in his professional mixed martial arts career and is one of the very few fighters in the UFC to get a title shot after only two fights into the promotion. Both his performances have been against top contenders in Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes.

Glover realizes the threat Jiri brings to the octagon, but as he prepares for the 41st fight of his professional career, he believes years of experience fighting the top contenders would help him a lot in this fight, and compares his skills to Jon Jones.

He said, “I wouldn’t call him crazy, but sometimes he does crazy things. But I’ve fought guys that, man, I can’t compare him to someone like Jon Jones, the top fighters, the best of the best of the division. He does pretty cool things, throws unpredictable attacks, things that are hard to study. He has mistakes, too.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

He added, “I have to train for five rounds and put pressure and see how much pressure he can take. If it’s the third, if it’s the fourth, if it’s the fifth. [The plan is] to go for the finish since the beginning with my game of pressure. I have to be calm, don’t get too aggressive. I’ve lost some fights when I was too aggressive. You have to be calm against him and attack on the right time, the moment he makes those mistakes.” (H/T MMA Fighting)
