After facing defeat by long-time opponent Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira will fight in a new division at UFC 291. Poatan will make his debut at 205 pounds against the former champion Jan Blachowicz. While the Polish fighter has proved he is a force to be reckoned with, Alex’s head coach and former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira believes Poatan will easily prevail.
After Jon Jones vacated the light heavyweight title, the division has had four champions. With Jamahal Hill vacating his title due to an injury, all the top light heavyweight contenders will aim to make a move for the title. This time, former middleweight champion Alex Pereira will also be in the mix, with his first challenge being against the Polish fighter Jan Blachowicz.
Jan was the first fighter to defeat Israel Adesanya in the UFC, thwarting his attempts to become a double champion. With Alex Pereira coming from the same division, Jan is a clear threat to the Brazilian fighter. However, Pereira’s coach and former champion, Glover Teixeira, believes Jan won’t be able to hold down Poatan. “I don’t mean any disrespect Blachowicz is a great guy, but no one can hold Alex. When Poatan started, I said he would be the champ in a year and a half max. In exactly one year he became the champ. I am not here to say **, im here to say the truth, ” said Glover.
With Teixeira knowing a thing or two about defeating Jan, he would surely know what would work in Pereira’s favor. However, the Polish fighter is also training pretty hard and has a game plan in place for Poatan. The winner could fight for the title in their next bout.
Jan Blachowicz’s odd gameplan for Alex Pereira at UFC 291
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz will be going head-to-head against Alex Pereira at UFC 291. With Alex easing on his weight cut to make 205 lbs and Glover Teixeira in his corner, Poatan seems highly confident of a favorable outcome. The Brazilian fighter and his team are positive that the result will favor them, and Alex will fight for the title next.
However, Jan Blachowicz has a hidden trick up his sleeve. During his interview, the Polish fighter amusingly revealed he would use magic to defeat Pereira. “No, I’m using my magic, but only before my own fight. I don’t use when somebody else fights. I’m gonna use against Pereira, not to anybody else,” said Blachowicz.
As of now, Jan Blachowicz has defeated every middleweight fighter making his light heavyweight debut against him. Luke Rockhold, Ronaldo Souza, and Israel Adesanya had a stellar middleweight record. Nevertheless, they all lost to Jan in their light heavyweight debut. Coincidentally, Alex Pereira falls in the same category. Will the Polish power prevail in his fight against Poatan? Fight fans will have to wait until this weekend for UFC 291.
