“Lose all of his training partners” – Glover Texeira talks about Alex Pereira training at full power ahead of UFC 281 main event

Alex Pereira (L) and Glover Teixeira (R)
Glover Texeira has been a long-time training partner and friend of Alex Pereira. The pair train together at Glover’s gym alongside other UFC fighters like Dominick Reyes. Ahead of Pereira’s title challenge against Israel Adesanya, Texeira talked about Alex’s skills and his training.
Texeira is clearly very impressed by Alex’s skills as a fighter. He heaped praises on “Poatan” as he broke down what makes the 35-year-old so good. “Alex is a true champion. His fighting IQ is incredible, you know…I compare Alex’s striking ability to Gordon Ryan, he’s very calm, very relaxed, he’s just waiting for you to make that mistake and he catches you.” When Aaron asked if Alex had caught someone like that in training, Glover dismissed it, saying they don’t injure each other in training.
He elaborated, “If you go full power, a guy like Alex going full power. He’s going to lose all his training partners.” And that certainly does seem to be the case as Alex Pereira’s punching power is immense. Even the best fighters cannot resist the power of his fists as displayed in his fights against Sean Strickland at UFC 276 and Israel Adesanya in Glory.
As the main event inches closer, Texeira hopes that Alex Pereira gets the job done at UFC 281. With Texeira comparing Alex to MMA legend Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, it is very evident how highly he thinks of Poatan. Whether these comparisons have any truth will be shown at UFC 281 as Pereira challenges for the middleweight championship.

Ahead of UFC 281, Din Thomas, the former UFC fighter spent the day with Alex Pereira leading up to the much-anticipated middleweight title fight. Thomas learned archery from UFC middleweight title contender Alex Pereira and former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira in a recent episode of “The Din Diaries.”
Addressing this in the same interview with Aaron Bronsteter, Glover said, “Alex is a hunter, he likes to hunt. He likes to train with a bow and arrow and everything. This camp he was so focused on the fight, he didn’t do it too much. But once or twice a week, we train.”
Texeira and Pereira do seem to have a very close relationship. The 43-year-old former champion is a massive fan of Poatan’s skills, heaping a ton of praise on him throughout the interview. And at the main event of UFC 281, there are no doubts who Texeira will be rooting for as Israel Adesanya takes on Alex Pereira.
