Josh Thomson and John McCarthy recently did a podcast on their YouTube channel ‘WEIGHING IN’ where they discussed the possibilities of a fight between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. During the discussion, they also shared light on who could win the fight and when the fight can take place.
In their “Weighing in podcast“, they predicted that the fight will most probably take place in the next 3 to 4 years from now. McCarthy explained that the fight could happen if Ngannou decides to leave UFC and joins a boxing or any other MMA promotion which will allow him to box. With that much star power, it won’t be easy for the French-Cameroonian to find a promotion suitable for his requirements. “He can go and get this fight right after he leaves and then he can sign any MMA promotion he wants,” said Thomson while discussing with McCarthy.
Another option that was suggested by McCarthy was if UFC took this opportunity and saw it as the potential to generate huge revenues like they can allow the fight too. In the past UFC has gone out of its way and has allowed a boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather which helped the organization to make millions of dollars. “They do an incredible job of marketing the people they want to market..you can possibly see it, with UFC involved,” said McCarthy regarding UFC’s plans regarding Ngannou.
“He can’t win this fight“- John McCarthy names his pick between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury
Both the podcast hosts after discussing all the possibilities predicted their winner of the Fury vs Ngannou fight and McCarthy chose Fury. According to McCarthy, even if Ngannou has power Fury has the experience of fighting with Deontay Wilder who has more power and boxing abilities than Ngannou. “He can’t win this fight, Tyson Fury is too good of a boxer,” said McCarthy about Ngannou’s odds of winning.
McCarthy also cleared out the fact that even if the fight happens with MMA gloves which might look like an advantage to the UFC star it won’t be a problem for the ‘Gypsy king‘. McCarthy explained that Fury is a very good defensive boxer and also has the experience of fighting in MMA gloves. “He works out with MMA gloves,” said McCarthy.
