“China Will Rise” Henry Cejudo backs Zhang Weili as she promises to put wrestling sessions to good use at UFC 275
Henry Cejudo blesses her student as Weili takes on Joanna for R2
Henry Cejudo helped Zhang Weili perform much better than her first time around against Rose Namajunas. In her first outing she was knocked out by the American in the opening round, something she corrected by last all five rounds against Rose the second time around with a sizable minority of fans arguing that the Scorecards should have been in her favor.
A big reason for that performance was the wrestling, something Zhang was already proficient in but was polished to a shine by former Two-Division champion and former Olympic Gold Medalist in wrestling, Henry Cejudo. Cejudo spent hours in the gym grinding with Weili and Deiveson perfecting every scenario they could expect from Namajunas and Moreno respectively.
Unique stories also started popping out of the gym, with training sessions being clouded by racist taunts clouding the room aimed at Weili. For those who don’t know, Weili complained the Florida crowd took her off guard with their boos and was a factor in her performance against Rose the first time. Hence Cejudo devised this ingenious training regimen.
Zhang Weili looks to use Henry Cejudo’s wrestling tutelage in a rematch against Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Now as she prepares to run back her historic five-round fight against Joanna, Weili has promised to make good use of the wrestling knowledge imparted by Cejudo. The first fight was an all-out brawl with most of it being spent on the feet. Now Weili has decided to be smarter and not completely operate in JJ’s domain alone.
“I learned a lot from Henry Cejudo and if I don’t use it, it will be a waste” Said the former Strawweight champion during her media day press scrum. Seems like she has impressed her coach as Henry Cejudo took a strong stand alongside Weili.
“China will rise again” Said the highly patriotic Olympic Medalist giving his blessings to his student. Cejudo has previously said that Weili is destined to be a two-time champion in her division.
Zhang Weili will face Joanna Jedrzejczyk in their highly anticipated rematch in a title eliminator for strawweight at UFC 275 in Singapore.
