Sean O’Malley gave the best performance of his MMA career. He managed to knockout the defending bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling in the second round. If Sterling had got the win, it would have been his fourth successful title defense. The Funkmaster had earlier defended his title against three former champions. The most celebrated amongst them was surely Henry Cejudo. Cejudo is also known for his achievements outside the octagon, as an Olympic gold medalist in wrestling. He recently lashed out at O’Malley for making fun of his height.
O’Malley and Cejudo had earlier been involved in a vocal altercation after UFC 276. The champion recently posted a Tweet making fun of Cejudo’s short stature too. To this Cejudo replied, “Not as short as your title run is gonna be you walking tampon. See you in December“. Cejudo is currently third in the bantamweight rankings and is one of the only fighters to win two titles at the same time.
As of now, Marlon Vera is the favorite to get the next shot at the title. O’Malley immediately called him out after his championship win. If not for Vera, O’Malley would have a perfect MMA record today. The fight between the two had ended in a TKO.
It is difficult to say who will be next for Suga Sean. He may want to get retribution against Vera, but there are many others waiting in line too. Merab Dvalishvili the former number one contender had not challenged for the title due to his good relation with Sterling. Dvalishvili now has the opening that he wanted. Petr Yan may want a rematch too and another shot at the title. The division does not have a shortage of threats. O’Malley needs to be at his absolute best.

Henry Cejudo, aiming for an epic comeback
Sean O’Malley’s championship win over Aljamain Sterling has rattled everyone in the UFC. There will now be major changes in the bantamweight. Every fighter in the top ten is hungry for a shot at the title. Amongst all prospects we may see Henry Cejudo making a dramatic comeback. Currently third in the division rankings, Cejudo was once a double champ.
Cejudo was undisputed in the featherweight and bantamweight categories. He was a dominant fighter till his retirement in 2020. After a three-year hiatus, Cejudo decided to come back to UFC and face the then-champion, Sterling. The bout resulted in the third defeat of his career, but it sure was a close fight. Everybody could notice that he was still in great form.
Although Suga Sean has himself asked to fight Marlon Vera, there could be other possibilities too. If Cejudo does get the fight, he would be on the verge of making the biggest comeback in MMA history.
