Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya are anything but friends, going off of their record on Twitter.

Jon Jones is considered to be one of, if not the greatest UFC fighter ever. If not that, then, he’s definitely the undisputed greatest light heavyweight to ever exist. Israel Adesanya, on the other hand, is current middleweight champion, and is undoubtedly one of the greatest 185-pounders ever.

With only a 20-pound difference in their fighting divisions, fans have repeatedly fantasized about a potential match-up between the two. The talk seemingly died down after Israel Adesanya lost to Jan Blachowicz in the light heavyweight division, in a quest to be double champion. However, every now and then, fans circle back to the match-up, to hypothesize about who could win and how.

In a recent Q and A video posted by Henry Cejudo on Youtube, a fan asked him this very question. To the question, Cejudo replied, “Jones would kill Israel. If you were to let Jones, like, literally kill him, Jones would kill him. That’s how much he doesn’t like him.”

Cejudo also doubled down on his stance of not liking Adesanya. He said, “But it’s understood though. The reason why I kind of started not becoming a fan of Israel is just because of the simple fact that he talked about his [Jon Jones’] mom who is deceased. For me that was like a dealbreaker.”

To put things into perspective, Jon Jones’ assault of his wife in Las Vegas last year prompted his long-time gym, Jackson-Wink, release him. In a bid to search for a new gym, Jones ended up at Henry Cejudo’s gym in Phoenix, Arizona. This could possibly explain his one-sided comments.

Israel Adesanya has expressed his wish to challenge once again for the light heavyweight belt, after failing the first time.

Before he can start any talks with the UFC about fighting Jiri Prochazka, or whoever will hold the belt when the matchmakers approach him, Adesanya must defeat his nemesis. The Nigerian-Kiwi is all set to face Alex Pereira at UFC 281, in MSG, New York.

The story has written itself till now – under the GLORY kickboxing banner, Pereira defeated Adesanya twice, albeit, in kickboxing bouts. However, what makes the storyline so fascinating is the fact that one of the finishes came via KO, for Pereira.

Fans are extremely excited to watch this match-up for a simple reason. Ever since Adesanya became the middleweight champion in 2019, he hasn’t really faced stiff competition and the fights can get “boring”, as per the fans. Additionally, Adesanya has recently begun to adopt the strategy of outpointing his opponents to a victory, instead of using his trademark striking.

Whoever comes a cropper, it doesn’t seem like Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira’s story is going to end just yet.
