“You inspired us,” Henry Cejudo honours Joanna Jedrzejczyk in an admirable tweet following celebration of Zhang Weili’s win over the Polish legend
Joanna Jedrzejczyk- Henry Cejudo
Looks like combat sports legend Henry Cejudo is past his aggressive as well as competitive spirits after cussing out Joanna Jedrzejczyk in an instant reaction to the latter’s fight against Cejudo’s part-time pupil, Zhang Weili at UFC 275 and it’s time to give due respects, from one legend to another. Cejudo is returning to the Octagon after a 2-year retirement as he plans to have a third title in his legacy by aiming for the featherweight belt held by the current champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Volkanovski is going to fight in a trilogy against Max Holloway at UFC 276 and no way that UFC President Dana White is letting Cejudo immediately fight for the featherweight title, rather, Cejudo is more likely and feasibly to first fight for the bantamweight title, which is held by current champion Aljamain Sterling. Cejudo is waiting to complete his pre-requisite to stay in the USADA testing pool for at least 6 months before getting back into the active competition.
A knockout win for Weili, retirement for Joanna, Henry Cejudo makes sure he reacts to everything
At UFC 275, former UFC strawweight queens Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk went into a war in their rematch whose first fight is considered to be the greatest women’s bout of all time. This rematch, however, went in Weili’s way as she secured a huge knockout win over the Polish fighter, leading Joanna to finally decide on retirement. Many legends put their respect to Joanna, and Cejudo finally gave his dues after celebrating aggressively over Weili’s knockout win.
On Twitter, Cejudo said, “Congratulations on retirement @joannajedrzejczyk you have inspired so many people from across the world. Thank you for giving us so many years of exciting fights and entertaining us with your passion for the sport. Best of luck in your future endeavours. Joanna Champion.“ The only thing missing in this tweet was the correct Twitter handle to tag Joanna.
What do you make of Cejudo’s words to tribute to Joanna’s career? Where do you put Joanna’s legacy amongst the greatest female combat athletes of all time? The Polish fighter absolutely pioneered MMA for her birth nation by making history when she became the first Polish UFC champion. The record for most title defences and most significant strikes in strawweight history stand the test of time.
