Henry Cejudo has shown comic skills during his retirement days. Apart from entertaining fans through his MMA fights, Cejudo also entertained them with his stand-up comedy. At least, bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling thought so. Clips resurfaced of Sterling among the audience in one of Cejudo’s comic bits. Sterling was seen laughing and enjoying Cejudo’s jokes.
Henry Cejudo delivered punch after punch in his stand-up attempt. While they weren’t any stern jokes, he said, “Guys, when I lost to Demetrious Johnson, I traveled the world. I went to Holland to learn striking…I went to Brazil to learn how to take steroids.” The camera tilted towards Sterling, who could not help but laugh at the jokes.
Henry Cejudo is a former two-division UFC Champion and an Olympic gold medalist. In his standup attempt, he did bits on his birth, winning the Olympic gold, and his loss to Demetrious Johnson. While some fans were in splits with Cejudo’s humor, some felt the jokes were not funny.
While Aljamain Sterling is set to defend his title against Cejudo at UFC 288, clips of the comedy gig emerged on Twitter as the event gained traction on social media. Netizens reacted to the clips, and some criticized the UFC for cooking up rivalries. Cejudo and Sterling have been bickering since the end of last year. They believed the UFC wanted to create a “fake rivalry” to promote the event. Fight fans look forward to the fighters squashing their beef after their title fight at UFC 288.
UFC 288: Aljamain Sterling vs Henry Cejudo
Aljamain Sterling versus Henry Cejudo will headline the UFC 288 PPV. The two fighters will compete for the bantamweight title at the Prudential Center in Newark. This fight would be Sterling’s third title defense since his controversial win over Petr Yan at UFC 259. Meanwhile, Henry Cejudo aims to regain the title he never lost. Cejudo vacated the title in 2020 after announcing retirement. After a break from the sport, Cejudo intends to reclaim his bantamweight title from Sterling.
Both fighters made their UFC debut in 2014. Sterling enters UFC 288 with a professional record of 22 wins and three losses. Cejudo is a former two-division champion. He retired in 2020 with the flyweight and bantamweight titles.
Fight fans expect Cejudo to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title if he defeats Sterling for the title. The Olympic gold medalist always indicated his dream of becoming a world champion in three weight classes. Only time will tell if Cejudo can regain the title and challenge Volkanovski in a future bout.
