Combat sports legend Henry Cejudo is nearing his return to the UFC octagon with each step after ending his retirement from the sport of MMA for about 2 years and slowly yet quite noticeably, is also changing his goal for the return as well. Cejudo the former 2-division UFC champion and the Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling last fought in April 2020 when he handed former WEC-UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz his first knockout loss.

After that, “Triple C” Cejudo retired from the sport leaving at the top- having and having defended both the UFC flyweight and bantamweight titles. In his retirement life, the most significant change in Cejudo’s career was becoming a father to baby daughter, followed by starting his professional sphere of life as a coach and having to enjoy the prestige of co-hosting a podcast alongside the likes of boxing icon Mike Tyson. Cejudo also has another podcast that he co-hosts by the name of The Triple C and Schmo Show.

The first major step to showing the world that he means serious business as a serious competitor for lighter weight classes in 2022 was to enter the athlete drug-testing pool as managed by the US-Anti Doping Agency. According to the policy of the agency, if an athlete wants to return to the respective sport, he/she must be clean to enter into the field of the sport at least for six months prior to coming into active competition.

Now, seems like Cejudo has also had successful meeting with UFC’s Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell and Vice President of Talent Relations Sean Shelby, who also works as a matchmaker as well. Cejudo’s manager and Dominance MMA founder Ali Abdelaziz posted a picture of Cejudo with Hunter and Shelby on Twitter and wrote in a set of 2 captions I don’t have to say much, but this is GOAT talk [2 goat emojis] @HenryCejudo@seanshelby then “All @ufc bantamweight division in big trouble The double champ is here”

Cejudo meanwhile, wrote down on Twitter “I’m coming back for these tomato cans and I’m going to right the wrong! Aljolame you the number one contender Bitch @funkmasterMMA @danawhite This indicates that Cejudo has shifted his focus- for now- from targetting a featherweight title fight against current champion Alexander Volkanovski to a bantamweight title fight against current champion Aljamain Sterling. Sterling meanwhile, had an amusing response awaiting for Cejudo.

What do you make of this sudden change of priorities for Cejudo to target for bantamweight primarily instead of focusing on the 145-lbs belt? Do you think Cejudo will eventually challenge Volkanovski as well or that opportunity has sailed a long ago? Also, who do you think wins between Cejudo and Sterling? The fight will be most interestingly unfold on ground as Cejudo is an Olympic champion in freestlye wrestling and Sterling is known for his exceptional grappling skills, especially in back control.
