“Boxing does not deliver like UFC”- Henry Cejudo trashes Gervonta Davis vs Rolly Romero
Henry Cejudo crticized the Davis-Romero fight to be not worth the money
Henry Cejudo has entered the evergreen debate about Boxing and MMA and which sport is the purest form of combat. On first glance, it may be obvious that a sport where people can kick each other to the face and slam their foes to the canvas may undoubtedly be the purest form of combat, but the proficiency required in mastering the sweet science of boxing is not one many are capable of. This argument can be even used against itself claiming boxing to be the better sport having a more scientific approach while MMA can seem to be “Uncivilized” to the uninitiated.
Cejudo who was a former two-division champion in the UFC will obviously come from a place of bias favoring his own sport but his analysis wasn’t based on any technical aspect of each sport but the energy delivered by the card itself. On his podcast titled, “The Triple C and Schmo Show” Cejudo sat down with MMA Personality, The Schmo and discussed the weekend’s boxing highlight featuring a bout for the lightweight belt between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero.
Henry Cejudo thinks Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero had a sloppy fight
The former Olympic Gold medalist wasn’t very impressed by the event that was put together. Though he was interested in the stakes of the fight, the Olympian swore to never pay money for a boxing bout ever again. He said, “I’m kind of pissed I had to pay 80 dollars for that fight, Second of all aI thought it was a boring fight but Rolly (Romero) was winning those rounds” When his co-host argued that the fight was interesting enough, Cejudo laid down his reasoning for labeling the fight as such.
“There was a lot of dancing, there weren’t real combinations, they weren’t really boxing, there was too much filler going through half of the fight’s duration,” said Cejudo who continued to elaborate on how without the 6th Round left-hook by Davis, this fight was at risk of turning into just another boxing match dragged out to 12 rounds with the real winner being crowned by the judges’ proficiency of the sport or lack thereof.
“I’m going to think twice about ordering another boxing fight cause it’s not the UFC Schmo,” said Cejudo stating that the sport of boxing fails to deliver as often as UFC the organization.
