“F**k you,” Herb Dean trashed by fans and public figures for Ismagulov vs Kutateladze fight at UFC Austin
Herb Dean- Damir Ismagulov vs Guram Kutateladze
UFC Austin was one amazing fight night for the fans around the world but not a good one for referee Herb Dean to think about. The reason for the latter part is that Dean was officiating one of the fights on the card, a lightweight bout between Damir Usmagulov and Guram Kukateladze which ended up with Kutateladze winning via split decision. The fight was a close one, however, there were a couple of contentious things taking place in the process.
Both the fighters are regardless a stalk of high potential who are going to end up in the top 15 rankings in near future. Moving on, the first contentious thing about the fight was the knee landed by Guram Kutateladze in the third round and then, the scorecards. Talking more elaborately about the first controversy, Guram’s knee was counted as a head strike to a grounded opponent, in this case, it’s Damir when what actually happened was that Guram hit Damir on the neck rather than on the head. Many people believe Dean’s decision to stop the fight briefly might’ve caused Guram the loss.
Fans and figures are not happy with 30-27 in favour of Damir either besides Herb Dean’s intervention
The fans on Twitter didn’t like the scoring either. 30-27 in the favour Damir didn’t make sense at all for the reason that Guram clearly won the first round of the fight. So fans and notable figures associated with MMA decided to outrage both on scoring and Dean’s decision to pause the fight, taking the dominant position away in favour of Guram.
What did you make of these couple of controversies that took place at UFC Austin within a fight between Damir and Guram? Do you think Herb Dean’s primetime as an official referee is over and his decision-making skills are rather affecting the fights negatively now? Also, during the knee strike by Guram, both of Damir’s knees were not on the ground, but because one of his hands touched the ground, he was considered grounded under Texas Athletic Commission. Do you feel different rules between Commission of different states are really affecting fighters’ in a profoundly negative manner?
