“Going to be strong everywhere”- Holly Holm reveals what she expected from Ketlen Viera at UFC Vegas 55
Holly Holm will be 40 this weekend as she attempts to make her way back to the Championship
Holly Holm will compete in her 20th Mixed Martial Arts bout this weekend at UFC Vegas 55: Holm vs Vieira. After an absence of more than 19 months, the former bantamweight champion will make her way back to the octagon and try to recreate a performance worthy for the combat sports legend.
Holm will look on to face Ketlen Vieira, the 14-2 #6 ranked bantamweight from Brazil and aims to soon be eligible for another title shot. Interestingly 3 of her last 7 bouts have been title shots where she lost by decision twice and was knocked out by Amanda Nunes in her return to bantamweight to challenge for the title.
Holly Holm describes a refreshing camp in the lead up to UFC Vegas 55
After the weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 55, Holm was interviewed by ESPN’s Laura Sanko where she was asked if it was indeed a renewed passion for competition that bought her back after a long lay-off. Holm said, “That’s definitely fair to say, I do have that passion, it’s always the nerves that come with fight week, but it’s also a reminder that I care that much” The former two-sport champion expressed how excited she was to actually be able to perform what she had trained after multiple fights were called off due to injuries suffered in camp.
Holm was then asked if the fans could expect a new and better Holly Holm after her last performance against Irene Aldana which showcased how she still belongs among the top tier of the roster. The former boxing world champion concurred with that sentiment saying the amount of time she’s spent in training for camps that didn’t amount to any fights definitely helped her master her skillset.
Talking about her opponent Vieira, Holm said, “She’s pretty well rounded, she tries to hurt you on her feet, she’s strong in the clinch, she’s got her trips, she’s got her cagework” describing how her opponent is a very well rounded fighter she continued, “I expect her to be strong everywhere, I am just going to be stronger everywhere”
Holm described how it was refreshing to have a camp that wasn’t simply taxing on her body and now has much more that her body can handle when the bell goes off for the fight.
