Megan Anderson felt bad for what she did later on
Women and Khabib Nurmagomedov aren’t a combination that matches very well. This led to a hilarious moment between him and Megan Anderson. This is not due to some sinister intentions that the Dagestani holds towards women but the obligations of his religion.
A devout Muslim, throughout his MMA career and rise to fame, Khabib would avoid touching, shaking hands and sometimes even looking at female reporters and co-workers. This was mainly out of respect for his wife more than anything.
Though the not looking part only happens when the reporter in question is wearing a dress that shows too much skin, he avoids even simple handshakes with most women. It was in this light that Megan Anderson unknowingly broke one of the most important codes of the lightweight champions’ life.
How Megan Anderson not knowing Khabib Nurmagomedov was Muslim lead to disaster
While Anderson was cornering one of her teammates at the World Series of Fighting, currently known as the PFL, in the opposite camp was Khabib Nurmagomedov coaching his fighter.
This was before Khabib’s ascension to the lightweight throne and hence he was not very well known during these days. In fact while Anderson recognized him, she had no idea that he was a Muslim. Hence what followed after the fight was bizarre to her on all levels.
As the coaches waited for the official results to be read, the two corners congratulated each other on the fight. As Anderson was done meeting head coach Mendes and others she realized that Nurmagomedov was ignoring her. “I thought I had offended him but I couldn’t remember saying anything about him that would make him act this way, ” she said later about the incident.

Frustrated, after the results were read, Anderson took it upon herself to be noticed by Khabib and walked up to the lightweight grabbing his hand to congratulate them on the victory. “I went and grabbed his hand to shake it and he looked at me like I had done the worst thing in the world, ” said Anderson about the look on Khabib’s face.
Anderson was later informed that it was a gesture of respect toward his wife revealing to Anderson that he was a devout Muslim. This shook her to the core as she realized what grave offence she had committed on the mains code of conduct.
Later on one of her teammates would go on to train at AKA, where he mentioned the incident to Khabib, which he unsurprisingly remembered well. The Dagestani revealed that he held no I’ll feelings towards Anderson and it was completely a matter of respect.
