How much does Spotify pay Joe Rogan?

Joe Rogan is Spotify's biggest star

In the world of podcasts, Joe Rogan is probably the first name that comes to one’s mind and is also arguably the most popular podcast host alive right now. While other shows like the Howard Stern Show come close in levels of popularity, the sheer magnitude of Joe Rogan’s podcast encapsulates all others.

Spotify has its aims set on becoming THE audio media mogul, leaving behind tech giants like Apple and Google in its wake. Led by Daniel Ek, it is already the biggest music streaming application. To become the biggest platform for all audio content, it needed a juggernaut like Joe Rogan, whose podcast/show, “The Joe Rogan Experience” (JRE) gets around 200 million downloads per month, according to The New York Times.

Joe Rogan’s USP is not sincerely his podcasting ability, but the wide breadth of people that he brings on. While someone like Howard Stern tends to stick to the entertainment industry, JRE has on it everyone, from neuroscientists like Dr Andrew Huberman to ex-UFC Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman.

Without a doubt, JRE is the most talked of podcast in the world at the moment. What brings it its viewers also brings it equal condemnation. Naturally, covering a breadth of topics, Joe will stumble across some wherein he might lose his neutrality as a host. Fans and casual viewers threatened to boycott the podcast, in the last three years, owing to Joe Rogan’s sincere anti-vax stances and his political views. Singer Neil Young had his music removed from the application in a bid to stand against Joe’s misinformation dissemination.

Anything that is widely popular will draw flak at some point, inevitably. Despite being under backlash, Spotify has decided to stick with its biggest voice. What was reported to be a $100 million deal, over a span of three years, has been increased to $200 million, with an option of a further two year contract extension, according to the New York Times.

It seems like Joe is making the mega bucks in spite of his audience being polarized into camps. As for now, Rogan has not slowed down at all, continuing his spree of weekly podcasts, which still enthral people, owing to the diverse background of guests and the plethora of topics discussed among them.

What must also be noted is that this is not Joe Rogan’s only source of income – he has been contracted to the UFC as a colour commentator for all the PPV events. His voice is synonymous with passion, as in the commentator box, onlooking the fights alongside Daniel Cormier, happening at arms’ length, or the podcast studio, where he takes on a slew of topics unabashedly.
