“She knew I would not be good” – How TJ Dillashaw’s wife stopped him from becoming a physician’s assistant

TJ Dillashaw and his wife
TJ Dillashaw is one of the best bantamweights to ever grace the UFC octagon. If not for Rebecca Dillashaw, we’d have never seen the California native pick up fighting gloves.
TJ Dillashaw was born in Sonora, California. Though the fighter had picked up wrestling in High School, after graduating from college, Dillashaw was really considering becoming a physician’s assistant. He graduated from Cal State Fullerton and thanks to his high school sweetheart, the world got to see an amazing bantamweight fighter.
In the latest UFC 280 countdown video ahead of the bantamweight’s title fight against the champ, Aljamain Sterling, TJ Dillashaw is seen talking about his wife helped him kickstart a career in combat sports. “One of the reasons why I’m fighting is because of my wife,” said “Lieutenant Dan” in the latest countdown video.
“I wanted to be a physician’s assistant and she knew that I would not be good in office for eight hours a day. So I gave her the idea that I was going to Sacramento and train with Team Alpha Male and try to become a fighter and she was all for it and kind of talked me into it,” said the former bantamweight champion.
TJ Dillashaw believes he can get back his belt from Aljamain Sterling using “better wrestling”

Dillashaw will be coming up against the reigning champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 280. The bantamweights will fight for the belt in the co-main event. Dillashaw is finally fighting for the title after his two-year ban. The fighter from California has been waiting for this moment for a long time.
Sterling is no easy hill to climb. The current champion is coming off a win against the talented, Petr Yan at UFC 273. “The style that I have to be able to fight, I mean, I’m so well rounded and I’m actually the better wrestler,” said Dillashaw on the DC&RC show ahead of his huge fight.
Dillashaw was inactive for two years after failing a drug test. The fighter came back to fight in 2021 against top contender Cory Sandhagen and earned an amazing victory. His upcoming fight against Sterling will show the world if Dillashaw is championship material.
