Earlier this year Travis Tygart, the USADA CEO spiked up hope amongst fighters, announcing its separation from UFC as of 2024. The promotion tending for lenient considerations toward a returning Conor McGregor is what caused the split, according to Tygart. However, the reeling lightweight, and others, were to still undergo contractual testing up until the end of the year. This also includes Paulo Costa. The 14-2 middleweight faces Robert Whittaker, on the UFC 298 card.

Costa was to face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 but had to withdraw due to a staph infection. Thus, all returning fighters competing in upcoming cards were to submit to regulations of the UFC’s anti-doping policy. With the USADA-UFC split this coming Monday, “Borrachinha” took one last jab at the testing pool regimen. Prone to poking fun, here’s what the fighter wrote, taking to X:

I was submitted to another anti-doping test today. Luckily I marked the correct answer.

The caption followed a snap of a document asking if a fighter takes performance-enhancing attributions; with Costa signing no. The fighter habitually and overtly touts his “secret juice” – an internet rhetoric of him taking the aid of performance-enhancing drugs; thus spawning the joke. This time, however, Costa did not give in, satirizing the inability of USADA to regulate this anymore.

Costa also recently defended the notion of McGregor (another viable collateral of the anti-doping policy) moving up to 185lb division. With him consecutively aspiring to fight at UFC 298 and make an appearance at UFC 300, fans are hopeful for their face-off.

Paulo Costa reposts hilarious goodbye tweet on USADA-UFC split

Paulo Costa’s squabble with USADA’s history started with a weight-cutting stint during UFC 278. Surpassing big names like Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar, Sean O’Malley, TJ Dillashaw, Misha Cirkunov, and Jiri Prochazka, the fighter is the cleanest though. In October this year, USADA updated its list naming “Borrachinha” as #1. Costa had submitted 33 sample counts to the testing pool.

Now, with more subsequent submissions, the fighter is on the top yet again. Costa recently made his final sample submission, ahead of the USADA-UFC split. The promotion’s top honcho Dana White and litigation Exec Hunter Campbell have anointed George Piro as the UFC’s new drug-testing helmsman. Check out Costa’s hilarious repost, taking a jab at USADA, down below.

Costa has not had any drug test values for performance enhancers under USADA oversight. Other than an overshot rehydration instance through the use of an IV in 2019.
