Ian “Machado” Garry set out to be the “disruptor” of the MMA bubble, as per himself. Taking cues from fellow Irishmen and superstar Conor McGregor, the 13-0 rising welterweight phenom is aggressively tetchy. As such he did not expect the attacks on his interpersonal relationship with his wife though. Recently Garry vowed to dominate Colby Covington for talking trash about his wife and released a subsequent hit list.

The strain of volatility started when champion Sean Strickland started defaming Garry’s wife. Layla Anna-Lee, the British sports presenter, made a publication in 2010 hinting at celebrity ensnaring. And “Tarzan” subsequently nudged in Garry’s victim status on the same. Weighing in on the matter in a segment with MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani, here’s what he had to say:

It f*****g stung...It’s stung on a level of ... I’ve agreed — not really agreed to — but I don’t mind. I’m in the fight game. It’s my job, it’s my passion, and it’s part of the game. You build the fight yourself, but you have to perform...

The fighter said that he did not expect the “vicious, vile, and untrue” commentary on his wife. Alongside, Garry also vowed to retaliate against Strickland and defeat him in-ring. He had also jibed at the 185lbs champion for not taking in disses proportionately to what he himself dishes out.

This came in light of a tear-soaked segment Strickland participated in, detailing his childhood abuses. This was during comedian Theo Von’s podcast, This Past Weekend. Accordingly, Garry sneered back some unsolicited advisement towards the rival.

Welterweight Ian Garry and Sean Strickland have been feuding for quite a while now. The fighter has been in troubled waters for long. Conversely, this was due to a plethora of issues. From his defaming Neil Magny to self-promotional tendencies and gym etiquette. But Strickland prompting a feud over his wife’s controversial publication was the ultimate straw.

Recently, post-UFC 296, the duo glanced up at each other at the UFC Performance Institute. Speaking to MMA’s famed journo Ariel Helwani, here’s what the fighter had to say on the matter:

I would say it was a scene...It was more of a glance, and him being shuffled into a lift, and that was it. And he had a little snicker on his face, and I shouted something at him — I don’t know what I shouted at him, but I shouted something at him before I even had a chance to think....
Ian Garry said

Strickland’s version of events lined with Garry’s in that the promotion’s security prevented a confrontation with the standout welterweight. In a typical unhinged fashion, the fighter later minced his insults and backhanded compliments on Garry. There might yet come a day when the duo, irrespective of weight class, get to hash it out altogether.
