Conflicts in the volatile world of mixed martial arts frequently extend outside of the cage. The next chapter in the ongoing conflict includes rising UFC star Ian Garry. Recently, he threw a verbal barrage at Colby Covington. This was spurred by Colby’s nasty words about Garry and his wife.
Colby’s choice to dish out on Garry’s wife left a bitter taste in Garry’s mouth. During an interview on The MMA Hour, Garry did not mince words while expressing his dislike for Covington and put him on a hit list. This is what he had to say:
I am going to box the ears off Colby Covington for some of the things he has said, and there isn’t going to be anyone in the world or in that octagon who is going to be able to save him. I promise you’ll know I’ll finish him, and I’ll do it in three rounds. I don’t need five rounds to finish him; I’ll do it in two. I’ll do it in one. Colby Covington is going to be slept, and I hope I hit him so hard that he is never able to talk again.Ian Garry via The MMA Hour
This challenge heightens Garry’s eagerness for his upcoming fight against Geoff Neal at UFC 298 in February. Success in this clash may launch Garry into a high-profile fight and change opinions of him inside the UFC.
While fighters involved in verbal warfare are not uncommon in combat sports, the personal nature of Garry’s threats raises concerns. It’s unclear whether Covington will retaliate in kind or allow his actions in the cage to speak for themselves.
Colby Covington calls out ‘cuck’ Ian Garry
Colby Covington has once again grabbed the stage, calling out rising sensation Ian Garry. Following his loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 296, Covington targets a possible clash with Garry and has not held back in voicing his dislike for the Irish fighter.
The war of words heated up after Covington’s appearance on Tucker Carlson when he referred to Garry as a “legitimate cuck.” This choice of terms derives from Covington’s criticism of Garry’s wife, Layla, who wrote a satirical book on the lives of WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends), a phrase widely used in tabloids to characterize women linked with sports players.
Covington acknowledged the possible battle, saying that he thinks that Garry definitely wants to resolve the disagreements in the Octagon. He believed that he would dominate Garry as he loved to fight.
