Jon Anik recently faced a huge backlash online for his comments regarding Sean Strickland vs. Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297. As such, in a podcast, he generalized the hatred he received from some MMA fans and called the whole fanbase ‘The Lowest Common Denominator.’ However, he soon realized his mistake and issued an apology on Instagram. Now, Ian Garry’s wife, Layla Anna-Lee, commented on the post questioning the integrity of free speech among the MMA community.
Jon Anik’s apology statement perplexed Layla Anna-Lee. As such, she expressed her shock and denied his apology altogether. Further, she questioned the internet world about the right to an opinion and free speech. Here is what she said:
Baffled by the apology. No way can I accept this. No way. You don’t have a right to an opinion now? “Free speech” is only for haters? NoooooLayla Anna-Lee (via Instagram)

Not long ago, Layla Anna-Lee found herself in a similar place to Jon Anik. The MMA fans trolled her concerning her relationship with the young athlete Ian Garry. She received unapologetic hate comments all over the internet. As such, Anik’s situation instigated her to stand up for him and question the nature of free speech. In the comment section, you can witness the comment made by Anna-Lee.
Jon Anik joined the UFC in 2012 and has serviced the promotion for over a decade. As such, he was an integral part of the UFC broadcast team. Now, he would appear at the next PPV event, UFC 298, in Anaheim, California.
What did Jon Anik say in his apology statement
Jon Anik faced toxicity on the internet for his take on the main event of UFC 297. As such, he exposed the hatred he received from the MMA fanbase in the ‘Anik and Florian’ podcast. However, he slipped words about the MMA fans, disrespecting them. So, he issued a statement apologizing to the fans.

In his recent statement as posted on his Instagram handle, Jon Anik addressed the comments he made. As such, he claimed to have been carried away by emotion. But held himself accountable for what he said and apologized to the fans. On that note, he mentioned that he had to be more responsible on the mike.
Although Jon Anik thought of retiring from the MMA space, he seemed to have resolved his situation. He is the current play-by-play commentator for the UFC and his retirement would’ve left an empty space in the promotion. Anyway, he looked excited to be octagon side for UFC 298, Anaheim.
