“Suga” Sean O’Malley bagged his bantamweight gold with a fateful TKO victory over Aljamain Sterling, at UFC 292. Barring the latter’s ultimatums for a rematch, O’Malley had chosen Marlon Vera for his first title defense. “Suga” faced his only career loss in the form of Vera, at UFC 252. With the mindset to rectify that on his terms, the fighter has been calling out his rival for quite a while now. They face each other at UFC 299.

With no bantamweight rematch in sight, “FunkMaster” makes his featherweight debut at UFC 300. He faces Calvin Kattar. Previously though, Sterling had critiqued O’Malley’s intriguing choice to choose #6 Vera for a title defense. Notwithstanding the disparaging commentary from peers, O’Malley had called out “Chito” on multiple occasions. Recently he aspired to finish him off in the 3rd or 4th round. Taking to X, a fan retorted “If he doesn’t stop you in 1st or 2nd.

Despite a few peers “betting the house” on Vera, O’Malley remains unbothered. He has posted his absolute resolve on knocking out the competition next, in many of his tweets. As a testament to his confidence, he had even posted online video reels of spoofing training with dummies and striking in a minimalistic fashion.

Excluding Henry Cejudo and Merab Dvalishvili, O’Malley also recently squabbled with Sean Strickland leading up to UFC 299. In the aftermath of the UFC 296 Media Day presser, the middleweight champion has mocked him. “Tarzan” has labeled his taunt on his abusive childhood as “an utter disgrace“.

Fans jibe at Sean O’Malley’s notion of knocking out Marlon Vera at UFC 299

Sean O’Malley recently won the bantamweight gold at UFC 292, against Aljamain Sterling. Correspondingly, the latter was expectant of a rematch. “Suga”, however, gets to square it off with Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC 299. Vera is the only career loss the bantamweight titleholder has of now; which he aims to change. Accordingly, he has called out the rival on numerous occasions.

Regardless of criticisms, the fighter remains set on defeating the Vera, come next year. Fans, however, are not so sure. While O’Malley does have the moniker of being the one-punch wonder at bantamweight, fans are indecisive. Many have even nudged in the “solid-chin” Vera coming out as a victor.
