Diaz and Chimaev wil headline in a 5-round main event

Khamzat Chimaev doesn’t seem to hold any bit of respect for Nate Diaz. While a good majority of fans wanted Nate’s final bout in the UFC something much akin to a triumphant war veteran finally walking out to lay his armor to rest, what we got is the general would have to fight off a rabid pack of wolves before he finally retires.

Such methods of strong-arming their fighters is something the UFC has got well versed in over the years. Sending a young and dangerous prospect like Chimaev against a tried and tested veteran like Nate who had no business fighting anyone in the top 5 of a division he was barely a part of.

Chimaev however seems to have taken the henchman role anointed upon him by Dana White a little too seriously. The Chechen approaches his fights with the “Smash All Kill All” mentality that exists in the new generation of caucus region fighters. In fact, his manager conveyed to ESPN that Khamzat had indeed self-promoted himself from a henchman to the undertaker as he promised, saying, “I am going to handle Nate Diaz’s funeral with the UFC”

Recently Khamzat took to Twitter and used a fan-made meme to display his sincerity towards the role. The fight would be the first ever main event in the career of the young Chechen who is also set to compete in his first 5-Rounder in MMA. However, he seems determined to make a mark by literally catching the first murder charge in the octagon.

After initially hinting at the fight by posting a “Spongebob Coffin meme” today Khamzat took it a notch further. Today the young star posted a fan made edit of Chimaev holding a eulogy in a grim funeral, written on the tombstone is Diaz’s name with the dates 2004-2022 etched on it. Signaling 2004, the year Diaz officially embarked on his MMA journey.

While it’s unlikely a ref would let it go that far, many are concerned for the well being of Diaz if the fight were to carry on despite Diaz eating heavy hands. Ever the tough guy, one doesn’t simply expect Nate Diaz to walk away from a fight without suffering at least a few cuts.

Although Nate faces the greatest odds he’s ever faced, being the overwhelming underdog against Chimaev, Nate has beaten similar odds in the past that have shocked the UFC fans and the top brass alike. Will he be able to pull off one such final upset as he walks out is yet to be seen.
