Alexa Grasso shocked the UFC world by submitting the long-reigning Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285. The choke she had on Shevchenko was no ordinary one. Thanks to UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s interesting observation, fans got to notice the tight squeeze for Grasso’s submission.
After seven consecutive title defenses, UFC’s long-time women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko lost her belt. The legendary fighter fell short of her challenger, Alex Grasso. Thanks to Grasso’s elite submission skills, she is now the newly-crowned flyweight queen. The world was shocked to see Grasso submit Shevchenko in that fashion. It took the Mexican only a split second to grab the neck of the dethroned champ.
“It was training, I’m training every single day for that thing because I know she does those spinning things. I trained that because I know she hits hard, she’s a great athlete,” she said in the post-fight interview. A lot of fans were shocked that Shevchenko tapped to what looked like an ordinary choke. But Joe Rogan pointed out in the commentary that Grasso had immense strength behind that squeeze.
A recent tweet supporting Rogan’s claims showed the picture of Shevchenko’s chin after Grasso let go of her. As soon as ‘The Bullet’ attempted a spinning back kick, Grasso was quick to grab onto her rival’s back. Check out the photos below to see how tight Grasso’s title-winning squeeze was.
Rogan just pointed this out on the #UFC285 broadcast. The moment Grasso let go of her title-winning choke on Shevchenko — this is how tight of a squeeze she had. Sheesh. Looks like the world’s worst sunburn. pic.twitter.com/EamyS3jsaC
