“Poirier, Gaethje all easy” – Islam Makhachev ACCUSES Charles Oliveira of not fighting real contenders

Islam Makhachev who is currently on an impressive ten-fight win streak will finally be getting his hands on the title shot at UFC 280. Oliviera and Makhachev will fight inside the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi for the UFC lightweight title. The hype around the fight is humongous and many are considering this fight to be the biggest lightweight fight since Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor at UFC 229. The pay-per-view event has the potential to generate millions of revenues and break many records in recent times.

Islam Makhachev recently appeared at the ESPN MMA’s show DC & RC hosted by Daniel Cormier and Ryan Clark. In the virtual interview, Makhachev talked about his upcoming fight with Oliviera and what is his mindset going into the fight. When asked about Oliveira’s past opponents and his credentials as a champion, Makhachev said that Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje were not hard challenges.

The Dagestani also believes that he, Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot are new top fighters in the lightweight division. According to Makhachev, Poirier and Gaethje were not grapplers and it was easy for Oliviera to get a win against them. He said:

“Everybody who say Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje or other guys they all have money, they don’t do challenge. We have new blood, me, Gamrot, Beneil Dariush, this really tough fights for him[Oliveira]. Because Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje they never grappling just striking, that’s why this is an easy fight for him but he knows, Islam Makhachev very hard for him.”

Oliveira vs Makhachev will be an out-and-out grappling showdown and both the fighters will try their best to get a takedown and get into a dominant position. Nevertheless, it is going to be an amazing title fight for the fans to experience.
