Islam Makhachev is the reigning UFC lightweight champion. He recently voiced his disapproval of Michael Chandler’s persistent pursuit of a fight against Conor McGregor. Makhachev criticized Chandler’s fixation on the potential high-profile bout. He suggested that it reflected poorly on the former Bellator champion.

The Dagestani fighter painted a vivid picture of Michael Chandler‘s supposed nightly routine. He claimed that Chandler goes to bed every night dreaming of the McGregor fight. Makhachev’s remarks aimed to highlight the potential folly in Chandler’s singular focus on a matchup with the Irish superstar.

I hope [the fight] happens. But in this situation, honestly, Chandler looks very bad. How many years is he waiting for this fight? Every night he goes to bed and he dreams, 'I will fight with Conor McGregor.' You're not young, you had a chance to fight somebody and make money, and afterwards you can fight with Conor.

MMA Junkie recently interviewed Makhachev. He acknowledged that the UFC did propose the fight against Edwards. However, he cited the observance of Ramadan as the primary reason for declining the high-stakes contest. Ramadan involves fasting from dawn until dusk. It started on March 11 and will end on April 10 this year.

Makhachev expressed his desire to pursue a second title in the future, provided both champions continue their winning ways. He remained hopeful for another chance at a champion vs. champion showdown. The Dagestani eyes a return to the octagon in June.
