Islam Makhachev recently shared his thoughts on Jon Jones still ranking as the UFC’s pound-for-pound ace. The lightweight champion’s frustration remains understandable. Despite beating featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski twice, Makhachev did not receive the No.1 ranking
The status of the pound-for-pound king remains a matter of debate. It varies depending on different fighters’ and fans’ viewpoints. Jon Jones‘ previous achievements in the light heavyweight division have certainly contributed to his status in those rankings. However, the Dagestani doesn’t think it’s fair and recently spoke about it in the media. He said,
"I have already said at the press conference, who makes these rankings, what they do it for, I have no clue. I beat the P4P king, and they didn't put me at No.1. So now, I'm not surprised they did it this way again. Maybe that's because he [Jon Jones] is fighting soon, and they want to promote his fight. I don't understand what else I should do to get the No.1 spot other than beat the one who was No.1."Islam Makhachev said to Ушатайка
Islam Makhachev expressed his confusion about the ranking system, noting that it doesn’t seem to add up in his view. He thought that the UFC might be pushing to promote Jones for his upcoming fight, which doesn’t surprise him.
Recalling his initial encounter with Volkanovski, when the Australian was ranked number one in the pound-for-pound rankings, Makhachev pointed out that he didn’t receive that top spot. Now, having beaten Volkanovski twice, the lightweight champion expressed his bewilderment. He wondered what more he needed to do to surpass Jones and claim the number one pound-for-pound ranking.
Alexander Volkanovski jokes about moving up to replace injured Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 295 against Stipe Miocic
The much-anticipated heavyweight bout between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 has been unfortunately called off. Jones recently suffered a pectoral injury and is reported to be out of action for the next eight months.

Alexander Volkanovski wanted to hold titles in two weight classes when he agreed to fight Islam Makhachev on short notice at UFC 294 last weekend. However, he was knocked out in the first round, which might affect his fight against Ilia Topuria in January.
But this didn’t stop the champ from hilariously nominating himself, suggesting that he would step in to replace Jones for the fight. The fighter also wished good wishes to Jones for his recovery.
While he’s joking, Volkanovski is known to play rugby, having weighed more than 200 pounds in the past. Being in the heavyweight division isn’t something new for the ‘Great’.
The Jones vs. Miocic fight was going to be one of the biggest PPV events of this year and it gathered huge attention from fight fans. However, it seems like that will take more time to take place.
