There is no doubt that former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the greatest to ever grace the Octagon. Nurmagomedov had one of the most illustrious and dominant careers in the UFC. However he recently completely parted ways with the sport of MMA to focus on his family. Despite his announcement, Nurmagomedov looks to be back to coach his prodigy Islam Makhachev for his second title defense against Charles Oliveira.

Nurmagomedov was recently seen back in training camp when one of his sparring partners posted a photo of the Eagle. He posed for a photo with friends at the NAS sports complex in Dubai, UAE. The Eagle had announced that he would be retiring from coaching and would not be a part of training camps. However, it seems like he had a change of heart ahead of Makhachev’s fight against Oliveira at UFC 294.

Nurmagomedov’s coaching always proved helpful for Makhachev as he would always be accompanied by the Eagle to every fight. Nurmagomedov had guided Makhachev to his championship win against Oliveira in October 2022. However, he was not present for Makhachev’s first title defense against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Makhachev has a great deal of respect for Nurmagomedov as he was taught everything he has achieved by him. Nurmagomedov’s return to the world of MMA was much anticipated by the fans as he is a fan favorite.

Nurmagomedov has always been a pillar of strength for Makhachev who has great respect for him. Makhachev has also been trained by Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov during his time in Dagestan. However, Nurmagomedov not being present for Makhachev’s fight against Volkanovski may have been the reason for the lightweight champion’s lopsided victory.

Nurmagomedov recently gave his thoughts on the UFC 284 main event. He said that the fight was hard and emotionally difficult for him to watch away from the team. He then went on to elaborate on how the time zones made a difference in the weight cut. However, Nurmagomedov believed that these are not valid excuses for a fighter. He also said that he was worried for the first time in his life because he was not with his teammate.

Nurmagomedov’s analysis was almost correct as Makhachev did not look like himself that day. However, the bond between Nurmagomedov and Makhachev is a big part and reason for their success in the world of MMA.
