“Title is the goal,” Islam Makhachev open to fight Michael Chandler for UFC Lightweight Championship
Islam Makhachev- Michael Chandler
UFC Lightweight Islam Makhachev is just focused on the belt and it doesn’t matter if he has to go through someone else other than Charles Oliveira. Makhachev last fought in February when he defeated Bobby Green in a fight card where he was originally supposed to fight Beneil Dariush but Dariush had to pull out due to injury. Makhachev dominated Green and secured a TKO victory within the opening round. Makhachev is mentored by UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Makhachev is on a 10-fight winning streak, the second-longest currently in UFC lightweight division after Charles Oliveira, the former champion. Makhachev’s wins include the likes of Green, Arman Tsarukyan, Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises, Gleison Tibau, Drew Dober and many more. Makhachev is also the #4 ranked lightweight in the UFC rankings. Amongst the names that are most likely to fight for the vacant lightweight championship, Makhachev and Oliveira are the ones that stand out.

Islam Makhachev considers the Michael Chandler matchup to be “easy money”
In multiple media appearances, Oliveira has said that he wants to fight UFC megastar Conor McGregor and suggested that Makhachev should rather first fight Beneil Dariush, who’s on a 7-fight winning streak, before fighting for the title. However, UFC Lightweight Michael Chandler has suggested that while Oliveira chases the money fight with McGregor, Makhachev can fight him for the title.
In response to this, Makhachev said on Twitter “Easy money…title is the goal, no matter who. let’s go @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc“
What do you make of Makhachev being open to fighting Chandler as long as it’s for the title? Do you think Makhachev has rightfully earned his title shot? Is Chandler the rightfully next person to challenge Makhachev for the title if not Oliveira? How do you think this fight will go? Out of all the wrestlers that Makhachev has faced, Chandler will be the toughest one considering how challenging it was even for Oliveira to grapple with Chandler before Oliveira finally won the fight on standup.
