Islam Makhachev isn’t afraid to take subliminal digs at his upcoming opponent. The Dagestani shows off his skills with a message to Charles Oliveira ahead of UFC 280.
UFC has given the fans what they want. The undeniable lightweight matchup between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira is finally here. The two will headline the stacked pay-per-view card in Abu Dhabi at UFC 280. This upcoming title fight is no ordinary matchup. The two lightweights are arguably the most technical fighters on the roster and have huge fanbases. Both the fighters meeting in the main event guarantees nothing short of a blockbuster fight.
Islam and Charles are fighters who usually let their fighting do the talking but a huge fight like this surely does rise the temperature. The Dagestani and Brazilian have been taking shots at each other before the matchup was confirmed by the promotion. In a recent Instagram post, Islam takes a dig at Charles by suggesting he would finish him in their upcoming fight. It is also worth mentioning that Oliveira has the most finishes in the history of the promotion and Makhachev is confident he can outclass the submission artist in his own game.
Islam Makhachev shows off submission skills
In a recent Instagram post, Islam posted a clip of him training for his upcoming fight. In the clip, you can see the Dagestani fighter showing off his submission skills and putting his training partner into a deadly submission. Makhachev usually trains at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose with coach Javier Mendez but since his next fight is in Abu Dhabi, Islam has decided to stay put in his own country and fly directly to the venue a week before the fight.
Islam is currently on a 10-fight winning streak while Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira is on an 11-fight winning streak. You couldn’t dream of a better matchup. Charles was originally the champion of the division but was stripped from the title after he lost on the weigh-in scale ahead of his fight against Justin Gaethje. Despite the weigh-in mishap, Oliveira put on a performance like no other and submitted the dangerous opponent.
Charles and his team were rooting for a fight against Islam in their home country of Brazil. The fight instead will happen in Abu Dhabi which is considered to be the territory of Khabib and his team. How do you see this fight playing out between Makhachev and Oliveira?
