Israel Adesanya channeled inner Michael Jordan to get back at Alex Pereira’s kids at UFC 287. He beat Alex Pereira to reclaim his title as the UFC Middleweight Champion.
Adesanya broke the string of losses he had been suffering against Pereira since their kickboxing days and secured a win after declaring the fight to be his “8-mile moment.” Even though Pereira was putting pressure in that second round, he came out the other side with a vicious right-hand knockout along with a follow-up to knock the lights out of Alex Pereira.
But after the knockout, Adesanya went all in. He began “shooting arrows” at an unconscious Pereira, mimicking his signature style and that he was the hunter, not the hunted.
Then Israel Adesanya began looking for Pereira’s son. Adesanya said in the post-fight press conference that he is petty. He wanted revenge for a previous disrespect.
What did Israel Adesanya do to Alex Pereira’s kid?
Israel Adesanya was not going to let disrespect or any type of mockery slide, even if it was from a child. Back in Brazil when Adesanya lost against Alex Pereira, his son apparently started mocking Adesanya by dropping down next to him imitating when Adesanya was knocked down in the fight.
Thus when Adesanya knocked out Alex Pereira, he looked for his kid and when he locked eyes with him, the video shows Israel Adesanya pointing at Pereira’s son and dropping down like his father who just got knocked out. The child could be seen crying at the sight of his father’s defeat. Netizens criticized Adesanya for this petty move while many found it hilarious and thought that the kid deserved it and had it coming.
Adesanya narrated the whole story in the post-fight press conference. “I saw him backstage, we’re cool,” Adesanya said. Retweeting a tweet that pieced the entire story together in a video, Adesanya quoted “…and I took that personally” by Michael Jordan, referring to the Last Dance documentary dialogue of the legendary basketball player which is now also a popular meme.
