Israel Adesanya finally defeated his long-time rival Alex Pereira at UFC 287. This was the fourth time that both individuals had fought each other in their careers. Pereria won the first three bouts, which included two kickboxing matches and one MMA bout. However, Adesanya got the last laugh and proceeded to shut down any possibility of a third fight.
Israel Adesanya said during the post-fight press conference, “It’s done. He’s had his story, now it’s my story. And I’ve closed that chapter and again, I move on.” It appears Adesanya is not keen on the potential rematch between the two fighters. The first MMA fight between them had Adesanya winning the majority of the bout until Alex Pereira took him out in the final round. In the second fight, Adesanya knocked him out in the second round, and he does not see any need for a rematch.
However, he said some nice things about Alex Pereira, urging him to move on to 205 pounds. He said, “Go cause problems at 205 and good luck to everyone else because he’s a motherf****er to deal with, I’ll tell you that.”
UFC 287 featured the fourth time The Last Stylebender fought Pereira. There has never been another case when one fighter pursues another to a different sport to compete with him. However, Pereira soon followed Adesanya into MMA after Adesanya conquered the Middleweight division in the UFC and defeated him. However, it was Adesanya who had the last laugh.
