Middleweight fighter Dricus Du Plessis shocked the MMA world after pulling off a win over Robert Whittaker. The Reaper is considered the gatekeeper of the division and seeing him fall has shocked many fans. The South African Fighter’s win was also followed by a heated face-off between him and the champion Israel Adesanya.
The fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Whittaker saw the latter controlling the fight. Given Whittaker was the betting favorite many expected him to easily win the bout. However, Du Plessis gained momentum late in the first round. He then carried on with the momentum and dropped Robert Whittaker in the second round. While the reaper withstood the knock-out he was later finished by a flurry of punches from Du Plessis. The referee called off the fight and Du Plessis won via TKO in the second round.
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was also in attendance for the fight. With the ongoing feud between him and Dricus, a heated face-off between the two fighters ensued after the win. Adesanya started with his trash-talking and had no filter while calling out Du Plessis. The middleweight champion also dropped some N- bombs during their face-off. ” This is my African brother right here, let’s go n***, what’s up n*** yeah my African brother, ” said Adesanya.
The South African fighter also made it clear that he wasn’t falling for Adesanya’s bait and had a witty reply. “I am African but I’m no brother of your’s son,” replied Du Plessis. After the win, Du Plessis cemented himself as the title-shot contender. Both fighters get to settle their dispute inside the octagon next.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya’s hunt for his next opponent might have concluded at UFC 290. Dricus Du Plessis pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history after defeating Robert Whittaker. The Reaper was considered the gatekeeper of the middleweight division. He also hasn’t lost a bout to any other contestant except Israel Adesanya.
After Du Plessis’s seemingly easy win over Rob, he has cemented himself as the next in line for a title shot. While Dricus always wanted a fight for the UFC gold, Israel Adesanya might have manifested this fight. The middleweight champion has a heated feud with the South African over some of his comments. The Stylebender has many times talked about wanting to fight Dricus and dominate him inside the octagon.
Adesanya also mentioned that he manifested the fight during their heated face-off in the octagon. Regardless, The Stylebender will be able to settle the feud once and for all with Du Plessis. Israel Adesanya will most likely make his title defense at UFC 293 after reclaiming it from Alex Pereira. While it is not yet revealed if Du Plessis will be able to fight at UFC 293, it is highly probable. The South African fighter walked out of the octagon almost unscathed and will most likely be deemed physically fit for competition at UFC 293.
