“I’m done talking” – Israel Adesanya has his game face on at weigh-ins ahead of UFC 281 title fight

Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya looks to be on his game for UFC 281. He faces his bitter rival, Alex Pereira in the main event as he puts his middleweight championship on the line for the 6th time. “Poatan” holds two wins over Adesanya in kickboxing, one of them being a highlight reel KO.

Yesterday, at the weigh-ins Izzy was all business. The Last Stylebender was the first to show up as he comfortably made weight while his opponent was nowhere to be seen. This carried over to the ceremonial weigh-ins as well, as Izzy had little to say when his friend, Joe Rogan asked him what this fight meant to him.

In response to Joe’s question, the champ addressed the crowd, saying, “Who wants to hear ‘And new’ tomorrow?” which was met by relative silence. He then asked, “Who wants to hear ‘And still’ tomorrow?” This was met by raucous cheers and approval from the crowd. Acknowledging this reaction, Izzy finished by saying, “I’m done talking, we’ll fight tomorrow.”

This fight is very different from the champ’s last few fights. Usually, very brash and loose on the mic, the UFC middleweight champ has been relatively stoic and reserved through this buildup, in stark contrast to his opponent. Though he has taken occasional shots at his opponent, he has not talked trash outright. Seems like Adesanya will prefer to do his talking in the cage this time around as we are only hours away from UFC 281.

Israel Adesanya seems to confirm no theatrics at UFC 281 walkout

Izzy has decided to follow Floyd’s example as he opts for a minimal walkout

Israel Adesanya is one of those fighters who is entertaining in and out of the cage. Despite his last few defenses being somewhat lackluster, his walkouts have become famous within the MMA community. With a variety of songs in his walkout repertoire, his walkouts are very grand and dramatic.

However, for UFC 281, it seems Adesanya prefers a more dialed-down approach. He retweeted a tweet from MMA History Today which seemed to confirm this. The tweet compared Izzy’s situation to how Floyd Mayweather Jr. always made flashy entrances unless the only thing he cared about was the fight. The tweet ended with the statement, “Israel Adesanya will have no theatrics for his entrance this weekend. It’s all about the fight.”

Adesanya certainly looks very serious as he heads into the main event of UFC 281. He seems to have severed all the extraneous factors coming into this fight, his sole focus being his opponent, Alex “Poatan” Pereira. With him vowing to make this fight a “horror movie” fans can only wait with bated breath as the UFC 281 main event heads their way.
