Losing can also be considered a motivating factor for some fighters. Although the fighter faces scrutiny for a loss, the majority of the audience and media outlets view it to be positive.
Israel Adesanya is a middleweight fighter who has made a name for himself in the UFC. Known for his brutal striking, ‘The Last Stylebender’ has had quite a promising career. Israel is no stranger to a loss in the octagon. Only possessing two losses in his entire career, they were definitive losses for Izzy.

Israel Adesanya’s disappointing first loss
Israel Adesanya was unbeaten and at the pinnacle of his game. After clearing the middleweight division, he embarked on the challenging task of moving up to the light heavyweight division for a new challenge. His winning streak, however, abruptly ended when he fought Jan Blachowicz in UFC 259. Jan won a unanimous decision over Adesanya. This was ‘The Stylebender’s” first defeat in the UFC.
Blachowicz out-pointed Adesanya in the striking trade. In the 5th round, Jan attempted a takedown which slowed down Israel. Izzy was then unsuccessful at a dominant performance after getting back up on his feet. With scores of 49-46, 49-45, and 49-45, Jan Blachowicz dominated the matchup.
The loss was tough on Israel Adesanya. He revealed that his technique on the night fell flat. And the size difference played a major role in the loss. Israel described the loss as a ‘bad day in the gym.’
Israel Adesanya’s devastating loss against Alex Pereira
Alex Pereira is a Brazilian middleweight fighter who is renowned for his destructive power. Izzy and Pereira go way back to their kickboxing days. ‘Poatan’ has defeated ‘The Stylebender’ twice in Glory of Heroes, a Chinese kickboxing promotion. This solidified Alex’s dominance against Izzy.
Their first fight in the UFC cost Israel Adesanya a loss. At UFC 281, Pereira beat Adesanya via a 5th round TKO. This was Izzy’s second loss in the UFC. Despite Israel almost dropping Pereira and leading the striking battle, he still suffered a loss.
With UFC 287 coming up, fans get to see who wins this time. Despite three losses against Pereira, Izzy is still the favorite to win this fight. Israel Adesanya claims that this will be his redemption against the ‘Poatan.’
