“Why we allowing this?”- Israel Adesanya opposes the involvement of trans fighters in MMA
Israel Adesanya
Israel Adesanya doesn’t support the involvement of trans people in MMA as it is unfair to others. The debate around the inclusion of trans people in the sport of MMA has been for some time lately. While some promotions have already taken steps and have organised fights including a transgender and a cisgender. However, most of these fights are mostly unfair as it is not on an equal basis.
For instance, one of the most talked about controversies regarding this is the case of trans woman MMA fighter, Fallon Fox. She took part in an MMA bout against a woman and broke her skull during the fight. This showed the world what a trans woman who was previously a man can do it a woman in terms of pure strength.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan also had a say about this matter in one of his podcast episodes. He said :
“She(Fallon Fox) calls herself a woman but… I tend to disagree. And, uh, she, um… she used to be a man but now she has had, she’s a transgender which is (the) official term that means you’ve gone through it, right? And she wants to be able to fight women in MMA. I say no f******* way….You’re a f***** man. That’s a man, OK? You can’t have… that’s… I don’t care if you don’t have a d*** anymore”
Israel Adesanya is furious that trans people are being allowed to fight in MMA
Recently, Adesanya shared a tweet that had a video of a trans woman fighting a man in an MMA bout. In the video, both the fighters were getting into frequent exchanges and nobody was going down. As the fight continued, the trans woman had her moments however, in the end, she fell short. The man named Shane Mistreta connected some nasty shots and then a right hook stopped the fight. Shane won the fight but his win wasn’t appreciated by many fight fans.
Similarly, Israel was also not happy with the match-up. The middleweight champion revealed that a trans woman fighting a man looks weird. Izzy asked why promotions are allowing this to take place as it should not have taken place.
“This just feels weird.
Who sanctioned this?
Why we allowing this??” Wrote Adesanya.
While Izzy is somewhat right about a fight, this does look unconventional; however, if both the fighters agreed on it and the makers had a problem, then there is nothing wrong in it.
Many fans also believed that this is the only way to give trans people a choice to be in the sport.
“Can’t exclude trans people from fighting, this is the only fair way.”
The male fighter in the video saw this tweet made by Adesanya and replied back asking what is the problem with him knocking out another man.
“I’m him.. didn’t know it was illegal to KO another man @stylebender”
