UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will defend his title against Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 293. The “Last Stylebender” has achieved it all in his division. However, when asked about what he sought before retirement, Adesanya desired his dream to secure a submission win.

The Last Stylebender said, “ A submission. Definitely want a submission, might happen in this fight. I know Strickland is going to wrestle. It’d be dumb not to, I’m going to mix it up.” Adesanya has 23 wins in his record, with 15 of them by knockouts. The rest eight victories against his opponents came from the judges’ decision. The “Last Stylebender” is yet to secure a submission win in his UFC career. His strengths lie in his dynamic striking, which has led to a successful career despite his lack of skill in wrestling.

Adesanya will start his second title reign after his fights against former champion Alex Pereira. The “Last Stylebender” lost and regained his title in a series of matches against the Brazilian National. Dricus Du Plessis had the opportunity to face Adesanya before he pulled out of the fight due to a foot injury. The # 4 ranked contender, Sean Strickland stepped in to secure a shot at the title.

UFC 293 lacks a stellar card. With the middleweight champion planning to secure a submission win, Strickland will attempt to prove Adesanya wrong. Many speculations were directed toward a wrestling showdown between the two rather than a striking one. Strickland claimed that a striking battle with Adesanya remains necessary as wrestling might not work.
