UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya demolished Paulo Costa at UFC 253 in September, knocking out “Borrachinha” in the second round in an extremely uncompetitive battle. With that victory, Adesanya set himself to face Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title at UFC 259 the man against whom he most recently defended his middleweight title is slamming the victory that put Israel in this position.
Costa after the fight posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he blamed his loss to Adesanya on becoming drunk the night before the fight because he couldn’t sleep, claiming that this was the reason for his poor performance. It’s an excuse that Adesanya doesn’t seem to believe in.
Costa has only fought once, losing to Marvin Vettori. Adesanya has successfully defended his middleweight belt twice. The Brazilian’s defeat in the main event put him on a two-fight losing streak for the first time in his career.

Costa allegedly went to a medical facility for the COVID-19 vaccine but attempted to flee with the documentation before receiving the shot. He was then accused of elbowing a nurse as he attempted to flee. Costa was arrested and transported to a local jail, but was later freed after being questioned. The 31-year-old does not agree with the nurse’s version of events, but he is scheduled to appear in court when criminal charges have been filed. The Last Stylebender will defend his 185-pound title against Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC 276, making his return to the octagon. If Adesanya defeats Cannonier, it will be intriguing to see who the corporation assigns him to fight next. If Whittaker wins his fight against Marvin Vettori at UFC Paris later this year, he has expressed his desire for a rematch with The Last Stylebender.
