Alex Pereira left the middleweight division after losing to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. Adesanya believes his fellow middleweights should thank him for defeating Alex Pereira. Adesanya discussed it on The Halfcast Podcast, hosted by fellow Kiwis Tyson Pedro and Kai Kara-France.

In the candid interview with the middleweight champion, Adesanya spoke about his fights with Alex Pereira in high regard. He stated their kickboxing rivalry made the UFC fastrack Pereira to a title shot. He said, “They’ll get f**ked up by him,” on other middleweights if they fight Pereira. This meant the other top middleweights didn’t have to fight “Poatan.” Pereira moved to the light heavyweight division after losing at UFC 287.

Adesanya was previewing the UFC 291 co-main event between Jan Błachowicz and Alex Pereira when he amused the hosts by joking about other fighters thanking him for sending Pereira up a division. He also spoke of wanting Sean Strickland as his next opponent and his issues with Dricus Du Plessis. Adesanya also spoke of his plans and criticized the government for controlling the people. He vows to dedicate his life to his family after his fight career is over and homeschool his kids to stop the government from controlling them.

The middleweight champion is set to face Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 293. Strickland got the call after Dricus Du Plessis pulled out because of a foot injury. The South African and Nigerian have a running feud regarding their African heritage. If victorious against Strickland, there is a good chance he will fight Dricus to settle their feud.

Israel Adesanya is not underestimating Sean Strickland in his upcoming fight. When asked about his next title defense, he said, “I am not underestimating anyone,” to David Adesanya. Adesanya believes anything is possible in MMA, citing Michael Bisping knocking out Luke Rockhold. He vowed to ensure that something like that doesn’t happen in this reality.

Adesanya further explained that Dricus Du Plessis could lose his spot to Khamzat Chimaev if Chimaev destroys Paulo Costa at UFC 294. He also praised Strickland for pressure fighting and having a nice jab. Adesanya believes, “A man with nothing to lose and everything to gain is dangerous.”

Strickland is coming off consecutive wins in the division, while Adesanya is coming off a knockout victory over Alex Periera. The pre-fight press conference is what everyone is waiting for, as Strickland has a history of saying controversial things. UFC 293 will take place on September 10, 2023.
