Israel Adesanya

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya takes on challenger Alex Pereira at UFC 281. These two have previously met in a kickboxing ring where Alex is 2-0 against Adesanya. With many saying Izzy won the first fight, their meeting in the octagon will surely be the rubber match for this rivalry.

So, in an interview with Combat TV, Adesanya admitted to this training camp being one of the most intense ones in his career. This is what he said about the training camp: “This training camp isn’t just a step up. It’s more like 3 step-ups. The last 3 weeks, it’s been work so I know what we have to do to get the job done. I’m fit, I’m really fit right now.”

UFC 281 headliners Adesanya and Pereira have previously fought each other twice in the kickboxing promotion, Glory. The first time they fought, Alex Pereira won the fight by a dubious unanimous decision with some claiming Adesanya deserved to win. Talking to Joe Rogan about the fight, Adesanya said, “I won the fight. We both knew. I hit you more than you hit me.”

The second time they fought, Alex left no doubters as he slept Israel with a perfect left hook that sent him crashing to the canvas. However, Adesanya feels that despite the knockout, he was winning the fight. He was asked about it during the UFC 276 presser, and the question riled him up a little.

He said he was putting Pereira on skates and then followed it up with a rather cringeworthy line, saying, “He knows I put him on skates last time. And this time when I put you on skates, I’m leaving you frozen like Elsa.”

Adesanya seems very confident heading into the bout, due in no small part to this training camp. Only time will tell who wins this heated rivalry as their rematch in the octagon is due at UFC 281.
