UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will defend his title against no.5 ranked Sean Strickland at UFC 293. The fight is set to take place on 15th September in Sydney, Australia. The buildup to this fight had everything that an MMA fan imagined. Before the fight, an interviewer asked Adesanya about his opinion on considering himself as the division ‘GOAT.’
Adesanya had a plausible explanation for this question. The 34-year-old said, “ I was chasing the greatest of all time.” He continued, “I have never given a f**k about the rankings. I know I am the best and I am not done yet. This is like the Michael Jordan vs. Lebron James debate. When have you ever changed someone’s mind? Never. Do you know why? Cause it’s art.” Adesanya explained that choosing someone to be your personal great was a subjective opinion. Further, he claimed that greatness differs for everyone.
Adesanya has proved a lot in his division and has definitely proved enough to become the GOAT of the middleweight division. Before his title loss against Alex Periera, Adesanya was closing in on MMA legend Anderson Silva‘s record for the most consecutive title defense in the middleweight division. Adesanya’s winning streak in the division demands much respect from MMA fans. Additionally, Adesanya also retrieved his title at middleweight after knocking out Pereira in their rematch in ecstatic fashion.
These achievements make Adesanya stand out from all the legendary middleweights competing in the UFC. A long-running career in the run for more records makes him one of the greats at middleweight.
Israel Adesanya calls Alexander Volkanovski the greatest fighter of all time
Alexander Volkanovski is a dominant name in the featherweight division of the UFC. Ahead of UFC 293, Volkanovski’s teammate, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, revealed his greatest fighter of all time.
The name was none other than featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. In the interview, Adesanya praised his teammates by complimenting his techniques and fighting style. On the bigger stage, Volkanovski has undoubtedly sealed himself as an elite UFC fighter. His only loss in the UFC came at the expense of the judges’ decision. He fought lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. Many believed Volkanovski did not lose the fight and that the judges robbed him of victory.
Such an illustrious resume speaks highly of Volkanovski’s career in the UFC. Many fans will agree with Israal Adesanya’s take on the greatest of all time. Both teammates have achieved greatness and are still competing for more unseen glory.
