“I will be in the zone,” Israel Adesanya vows to replicate Anderson Silva’s aura against Forest Griffin in next fight at UFC 276
Forrest Griffin vs Anderson Silva- Israel Adesanya
Israel Adesanya is set to make his fifth title defence come next month at UFC 276 against #2 ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier, and is set to bring a vibe back from the good old UFC days of 2000s. Adesanya, the current middleweight champion, is 12-0 undefeated as UFC middleweight. His only loss comes at light-heavyweight against former light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz. Cannonier has come down from knocking opponents at heavyweight to knocking some more at light-heavyweight and finally settling at middleweight.
Cannonier is 5-1 in the 185lbs division and has overall career wins over the likes of Ion Cutelaba, David Branch, Jack Hermansson, Kelvin Gastelum, Derek Brunson and many more. Other fights on UFC 276 main card include UFC featherweight champion and Adesanya’s teammate Alexander Volkanovski making his fourth title defence against preceding champion Max Holloway in a trilogy. UFC middleweights and future title contenders Sean Strickland and Alex Pereira will go toe to toe against each other as well.
Israel Adesanya believes fight against Jared Cannonier will be spectacular and reminiscent of UFC 101
Adesanya has always admired taking inspiration to make a bold statement in MMA from former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, the man who holds the record for the second most title defences in UFC history and has won over the likes of Forrest Griffin, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, Derek Brunson, Rich Franklin, Patrick Cote, Demian Maia, Chris Leben and many more. Silva is currently competing in boxing after leaving MMA for good. There also, Silva has made his statement as an evergreen legend of combat sports.
In one of the videos on his Youtube Channel recently, Adesanya talks about his upcoming fight with Cannonier and what he will bring on the table. “This is going to be spectacular,” Adesanya said “Think UFC 101, Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin. Like, I’m just going to be in the zone. I don’t care – stay tuned.”
Adesanya is referring to Silva’s stellar performance and an all-time great knockout delivered against UFC Hall of Famer Forest Griffin back in 2009. Before delivering the knockout, Silva showed the world why he was unmatchable in skills on the feet in his prime and why he is one of the greatest ever to do it all in MMA. The head movement was something magical for the fans to notice. Do you think Adesanya can be close to Silva’s greatness when he will leave the middleweight division for good? Or has he already equalled “The Spider” in legacy?
