Israel Adesanya is arguably one of the greatest strikers in UFC history. He will face Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 293. Being a huge favorite and having the striking advantage, Strickland has no shot, according to many people.
However, Strickland’s striking coach, Danny Davis Jr. has come forward and warned Adesanya. He said, “Sean has one of those styles that it looks easy from the outside in a sense if you’re a high-level striker or mixed martial artist. But once you’re in there and you experience it, there’s some unknowns, some intangibles that one cannot prepare for. The grittiness that Sean Possesses ready to bite down on that mouthpiece and make it a war, bring the violence you know. Not make a pretty kickboxing match.” Davis Jr. believed that the level of striking Strickland possessed could rival the champion.
Sean Strickland got the title shot due to circumstances. The original opponent for Adesanya at UFC 293 was Dricus Du Plessis. Unfortunately, an injury made it impossible for him to compete at UFC 293. Israel Adesanya’s camp remained adamant about not giving an immediate title shot to the South African fighter. They are already looking at the winner of Khamzat Chimaev and Paolo Costa as potential opponents.
The UFC 293 main event is seen as an easy victory over Adesanya. He is far more sophisticated in the striking department and has arm and leg reach over Strickland. However, Strickland could incorporate heavy wrestling into the game to challenge the champion.
Tyson Pedro considers Israel Adesanya as a true brother
Israel Adesanya is known to be a great teammate. His reaction when Alexander Volkanovski fought Islam Makhachev remains proof enough of that. Fighters at City Kickboxing hold him in high regard. Moreover, the FreeStylebener podcast shows his reactions to fights in which he is always seen cheering his guys up.
A new addition to the City Kickboxing family is Tyson Pedro. Pedro was injured during his fight with Mauricio Rua in December of 2018. It took him three years to recover from the knee injury. After joining CKB, Pedro won consecutive bouts before losing to Modestas Bukauskas at UFC 284. The loss subjected him to online abuse, and the one who comforted him in his low time was Israel Adesanya.
Tyson Pedro considers Adesanya as a true brother. Such an appreciation could motivate Adesanya further in his preparations against Sean Strickland. Pedro will fight Anton Turkalj in the undercard of UFC 293. Pedro has vowed to never fight Adesanya, no matter the cost.
