Welterweight champion Leon Edwards locks horns with title contender Colby Covington this weekend, at UFC 296. The headlining event has garnered much anticipation, which also is the final PPV of the year. Appearing at the UFC 296 Media Day pre-fight presser, “Chaos” had disrespected the opponent’s late father. Now, former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has weighed in on the same.
Appearing on his YouTube channel, the “Stylebender” upholds the trend to weigh in on upcoming fights and close peers. Adesanya himself is on a self-imposed sabbatical after the title-skid to Sean Strickland. This is what the fighter had to say on the 17-3 Covington’s recent behavior:
And his [Leon] target is on Colby right now...I want him to just 'dead' this guy for what he said! Abomination! So yeah - headshot dead. On Colby...Israel Adesanya via his YouTube channel
Covington has thereupon attracted much attention. He has also been dressed down by many peers for his “heinous” behavior consequently. Some have even invoked his assault at the hands of Jorge Masvidal, post-UFC 272 as righteous. This now includes Adesanya as well, who he has scuffled with before.
In May, “Chaos” had expressed his biased interest in locking on to and “break” Adesanya, the then-middleweight titleholder. The latter is, however, purposefully inactive till 2027. Such a rivalry and possible matchup between the two is thus yet to take shape.
Paddy Pimblett critiques Colby Covington’s personal jab at Leon Edwards
Colby Covington and Leon Edwards meet in a welterweight title bout this weekend. Fighting on the same card at UFC 296, Paddy Pimblett faces Tony Ferguson. Speaking at the UFC 296 pre-fight conference, “The Baddy” stood testament to Covington invoking the opponent’s deceased father. A move that has naturally been bashed down by fans and peers.
The fighter from Liverpool faces lightweight veteran Ferguson; who as such vibed with Covington’s patriotic stance. However, Pimblett had no such inclinations or moral obligations. Check what the Briton had to say on the matter:
Pimblett is famous within the combat sports spectrum as an expressive and jovial entity. As such, the fighter thus himself nudged in that he would have expressed utmost rage if his family was ever fostered into a fight build-up. Additionally, he is not alone in this sentiment.
