Israel, “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya, is the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. He’ll go up against No.5 ranked middleweight contender Sean Strickland in his upcoming title defense. With the buildup to this fight, both fighters have exchanged a few words. There is a sense of real animosity between the two fighters. In a recent interview, Adesanya made some claims about how the fight will conclude.
Israel Adesanya said, “I never underestimate anyone. I’m very aware of the dangers that he brings, the stuff that he’s good at. I’m not underestimating this guy, but at the same time, I’m not overestimating him. I wanna make this look easy. I’m going to make this look easy because of the work we’re doing right now and the way I’m working right now. I just know.” Strickland also seemed confident going into this fight, as he’s coming off a dominant win against Abus Magomedov.
Both fighters went back and forth at the pre-fight press conference at UFC 276. Sean Strickland went on to lose against Alex Pereira, which led to a chain reaction of events. After his victory at UFC 276, Adesanya fought Alex Pereira to lose the title in that matchup. In a sudden rematch, Adesanya stopped Pereira in Round 2 with a knockout to win the title for the 2nd time.
Adesanya is looking forward to his title defense after reclaiming his title. Dricus Du Plessis became the No. 1 contender after defeating Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. However, the South African fighter backed out of this fight due to a leg injury. Sean Strickland got the title shot instead to allow Adesanya to headline the PPV card in Australia.
Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland are looking forward to the press conference
In an interview, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya spoke about the upcoming press conference for his next title defense. Sean Strickland, who will be facing Adesanya in the fight, has a reputation for trash-talking.
Adesanya mentioned Strickland by calling him a loudmouth. He also spoke about how he felt about Strickland’s true nature and how it differs from his real self. While Adesanya doesn’t care about the presser, he has warned Strickland that he’ll get a taste of his own medicine if he trash-talks against him. Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman spoke about mental toughness being a significant factor in Adesanya’s success.
Israel Adesanya has defeated many opponents in his UFC career, making him a formidable opponent. His unfazed attitude towards noise and trash-talking is proof of his mental toughness. However, Strickland managed to trigger Izzy in the past and will look to do the same in the future.
