Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier had one of the greatest rivalries in the UFC. They both are always in conversations about being some of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, and their clashes at UFC 182 and UFC 214 are among the most heated fights of all time. What brings fans to that rivalry comes from the immense hatred both of them had for each other.
Jon Jones is undeniably one of the most skilled MMA fighters of all time. He has excellent striking techniques and utilises a variety of kicks, high-level wrestling and submission game. It was very evident the first time he fought Daniel Cormier. Jones took down the Olympic-level wrestler multiple times in their first match. The trash talk reached an all-time high in the lead-up to their second fight when Jones challenged Cormier to take him down five times in five rounds.
Here is what Jones had to say to Cormier: “I challenge you to get me down five times in that five-round fight. You won’t be able to do that…I want you to believe it, every ounce of training you put in leading up to this fight, will be a waste of your life.”
At UFC 214, Jones and Cormier clashed for the second and final time, with Jones winning the fight by KO in the third round. After the fight, Jones was stripped due to a failed drug test, and Cormier was reinstated as the Champion.
A trilogy fight between the both would have been fantastic. If it had happened, it could have even been in the heavyweight division. Cormier moved to the heavyweight division around the time Jones returned from suspension, and everyone expected that Jones would eventually move up to the heavyweight division.
Jon Jones becomes the MMA GOAT if he wins UFC Heavyweight Championship

UFC 285 is upon us, featuring the return of Jon Jones from inactivity to take on Cyril Gane for the UFC Heavyweight Title. We will probably witness the crowning of the MMA GOAT if Jones wins the title.
The resume of Jon Jones as a light heavyweight might even be enough to solidify him as the most dominant fighter of all time. Cyril Gane on the other hand, is considered the most skilled fighter in the heavyweight division. Moving up a weight class, he is not only fighting for the title but also fighting arguably the best heavyweight in the UFC. If he can overcome the puzzle that is Gane, Jones will have an undisputed case as the MMA GOAT, as no other fighter has come close to the accomplishment he has achieved in his resume.
