Jake Paul has once again fired back at UFC President Dana White after White praised his opponent Nate Diaz. Paul has a history of calling out White for not paying UFC fighters enough. He took a shot at White in relation to the recent cancelation of the fight between Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and Michel Pereira at UFC 291.
Paul took to Twitter to reply to a video of White appreciating Diaz’s performance. “Focus on taking care of @WonderboyMMA’s purse. He’s pushing 41, you matched him against a 28-year-old who totally disregarded the weight and you wanted to pressure him to fight”, said Paul criticizing White.
White received criticism from Paul for refusing to pay Thompson’s fight fee. According to White, the UFC does not automatically pay fighters’ show money for fights that do not take place. He stated that the UFC would work with Thompson to find a way to compensate him for his training camp. However, he will not be paid the full show fee. Fans believe Thompson should be compensated because he is a legend and veteran of the sport.
Thompson and Pereira’s fight was set to take place at UFC 291. The fight was canceled after Pereira missed weight by three pounds, weighing in at 174 pounds. Pereira had missed weight twice in his UFC career. Thompson has never missed weight in his career. This upset fans, as it is always a joy to watch “Wonderboy” fight. Thompson has only a few fights left in his career, and fans missed another opportunity to witness his performance at UFC 291.
Fans react to Jake Paul calling out Dana White for denying fighters pay
Since his fight against MMA fighter Ben Askren, Paul has advocated for better pay for UFC fighters. White’s decision caused plenty of reactions. Some argued that the UFC should pay Thompson his full show money even though the fight did not occur. Check out some of the reactions from fans to Paul calling out White.
How the UFC will compensate Thompson for his canceled fight remains to be seen. The pay of UFC fighters varies greatly. On the other hand, the top fighters in the UFC can earn millions of dollars per fight. As a result, the UFC is one of the most profitable sports leagues in the world.
