“EMBARRASSING for this sport,” Jake Paul insults & calls Luke Rockhold “dog s**t” for UFC 278, gets fiery response from Ariel Helwani

Ariel Helwani and Jake Paul
Jake Paul can get away from insulting any fighter on his own but cannot do so under Ariel Helwani’s nose, which is quite big to be fairly honest. Paul, a Youtuber and an entrepreneur who’s also a pro-boxer, is undefeated in his boxing record with notable wins over former MMA champions Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. Paul last came to the news when his fights were cancelled back to back against his scheduled opponents, Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr.
Now, Paul is back in the headlines for his insulting remarks over the co-main event of UFC 278. UFC 278 was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The co-main event comprised of an all-out war between 2 middleweights of high calibre, with one of them losing his prime time and calling it a retirement afterwards. The fight ended up being one of the most entertaining fights in UFC history. This was the battle between former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and former UFC title challenger Paulo Costa. In the end, Costa got his hand raised via unanimous decision.
Ariel Helwani calls Luke Rockhold a “pioneer of the sport” and Jake Paul refutes the statement

In a series of tweets, Helwani started of reacting to the co-main event, and it was Paul who said in the comments “embarrassing for the sport” & “dog s**t Ariel.” After that, a series of back and forth started to take place in which Helwani was having the upper hand. Paul also claimed that fighters like Rockhold “have excuses,” indicating the multiple times the UFC legend put his hands on his knees for more air because he was feeling tired during the rounds. In all fairness, Rockhold also called it a retirement on his part.
Helwani said that Rockhold is a legend of the sport and also brought up the instances that Rockhold overcame to come back after three years to fight against a top guy. Rockhold has said in one of his recent interviews pre-UFC 278 that he had to overcome abortion and staph infection of the leg to bring his fire back for training and eventually fighting.

Fair enough to say, Rockhold was the last established UFC fighter from American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) after his teammates, Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Cain Velasquez called it a career by the end of 2020. Now that Rockhold has sung his swan song last weekend, AKA is all about the rising stars such as Khabib’s brothers Usman and Umar Nurmagomedov and his longtime friend, Islam Makhachev.
What did you make of this back and forth between Helwani and Paul? Do you think Paul is just playing the character of the problem child or is he very wrong for this one regardless? Who do you think Paul will return to boxing against? Where do you put Helwani amongst the greatest sports journalists of all time?
