The Diaz brothers are one of the biggest personalities in mixed martial arts and are very hard to mingle and be associated with but Jake Shields is one of the very few members of the “Diaz army” who has been with the two superstars before their stardom.


MMA veteran Jake Shields has traveled with Nick Diaz and Nate Diaz throughout his careers. The two superstars can always be seen hanging out with the former Elite XC and Strikeforce champion. Jake has a professional MMA record of 33-11-1 in his career and is one of the senior members of the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu teams. Jake in a recent tweet, shared some memories from the past days of training with the Diaz brothers.

“I’ve been training with my crew Since we were just teenagers @GilbertMelendez@NateDiaz209,” wrote Jake posting a picture of a young Nate Diaz. In the following tweet, Shields also posted a throwback picture of him and Nick Diaz. “And don’t want to leave the OG @nickdiaz209 out,” wrote Jake. Shields was also spotted with Nick at the famous boxing match between YouTube celebrity Jake Paul and former welterweight UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

Who is Jake Shields and did he fight in the UFC?

Jake is a former Elite XC welterweight champion, Shooto welterweight champion, and a former Strikeforce middleweight champion. Jake was one of the biggest names in MMA and currently fights in the PFL. The middleweight fighter is 43 years old and has 33 wins in his mixed martial arts career.

Jake was part of the UFC for four years. In 2010, Shields left Strikeforce and made a move to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In his time in the UFC, Jake stacked a record of 4-3. In his time in the UFC, Shields fought some of the biggest names in the welterweight division. He fought the greatest welterweight of all time, Georges St Pierre in 2011 at UFC 129. Shields ended up losing that fight via decision.

Jake also has wins against big names like Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley. Jake was released from the promotion by Dana White as the company did not see the fighter going somewhere in the division which seemed to be more dangerous than ever at that time.
