A light heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill headlines the UFC 300 card. Recently, Jamahal Hill and Michael Bisping mocked Alex Pereira’s claims about UFC 301. It was said that Pereira had a contract clause that would allow him a quick turnaround to fight at UFC 301. This would apply only if he won the light heavyweight title at UFC 300.
Jamahal Hill came on Michael Bisping’s podcast. Hill had some questions about the rumored clause. The former champion laughed off the notion, stating he heard Pereira mention it but found the idea implausible. Michael Bisping agreed with Hill’s take on this. He felt it was highly unlikely that the UFC top brass would accept this condition. Jamahal Hill said:
I heard him say this bit It’s cap, bro. .. Imagine telling Hunter (Campbell) or Dana (White), ‘Hey, put this in my contract' …There’s no clauses. When have you ever had a clause in your contract?Jamahal Hill via Michael Bisping podcast
Hill questioned how fighters could demand such contractual stipulations from Dana White and Hunter Campbell. This emphasized the improbability of the UFC granting Alex Pereira’s request for a quick return at the Brazil-based event. Hill seemed confident the UFC would respond with a noncommittal “we’ll see” rather than contractually obligating themselves.
It must be noted that before the UFC 300 headliner was finalized, Alex Pereira was possibly slated to fight at UFC 301. The lack of a headline fight shifted his UFC 301 bout in Brazil to UFC 300 in Las Vegas. Hill seemed extremely confident going into this fight. If ‘Poatan’ loses, the value of the clause becomes worthless.
Jamahal Hill refuses to credit Alex Pereira for defeating Sean Strickland
Former champion Jamahal Hill has constantly criticized Alex Pereira ahead of the light heavyweight title fight. He took it to a new level on Michael Bisping’s podcast. Back in 2022, Pereira destroyed Sean Strickland in the first round. At the time, Strickland had not suffered any defeats since moving to the middleweight division in 2020.
Fans and analysts saw it as an impressive performance. However, Hill didn’t see it that way despite Michael Bisping counting it as a legitimate win. ‘Sweet Dreams’ refused to credit the win on Bisping’s podcast. Hill said:
Sean wasn't the champ when he beat him. Then, you gotta think of it like this - that version of Sean Strickland that he beat, Sean went through some other trials, other fights and other growth before he became that champion. So, I don't think its fair to give him credit for beating that version of Sean Strickland.Jamahal Hill via Michael Bisping’s
Despite Hill’s argument, one can never forget how Pereira baited Strickland into leaving his chin wide open for the left-hand strike. ‘Poatan’ used body punches repeatedly to make Strickland leave his hands down. At that moment, Strickland landed the devastating left hook to knock Strickland down and win the fight. Regardless of what Hill believed, it remains one of the most impressive wins of Pereira’s career.
